Most western countries have adopted a high degree of technology in education to boost their human resource base. The 21st century has brought with it several new innovative technologies that can significantly aid the process of teaching and allow for a more seamless digital interface in education. However, the developing countries of Asia and Africa have fallen behind on adopting such high levels of technology in education mostly due to the reduced access to technological resources. Globalization has recently been a benefactor in this case, wherein it has enabled the entry of state-of-the-art technology in education into the developing African countries like Zambia.

The iSchool initiative in Zambia

As a result of such rapid globalization, technology for both students and teachers has penetrated the educational infrastructure of Zambia. In this context, the iSchool initiative provides interactive tablets pre-loaded with teaching and learning resources for both students and teachers. This interactive technological learning aid, available in eight local African languages, is an excellent example of the integration of modern technology in education for developing countries like Zambia. There are also affordable financing plans for teachers and local schools to purchase these iSchool tablets. This further encourages the infiltration of technology in education in Zambia.

Teacher training in Zambia

Despite such innovative integration of modern technology in education, it is important to note that these initiatives are focused only on education at the primary and secondary school levels. There still exists a serious lack of such technology in education at the graduate and postgraduate levels in Zambia. Moreover, the training of teachers to use such new technological aids has become a paramount challenge for the educational infrastructure of Zambia. Despite the help received from UNESCO wherein workshops have been organised for Zambian educators, the problems still exist at the rural levels where such technology’s still largely inaccessible.

Zambian students resort to foreign education

Due to these issues, a sizeable portion of the Zambian youth who have graduated from high schools seeks solace in the higher quality of education available in foreign countries. It is a widely accepted fact that the incorporation of advanced technology in education is by far more commonplace in western countries that offer valuable graduate and postgraduate courses. Therefore, many Zambian students opt for foreign colleges and universities in the West.

Modern education at Sharda University

The foreign universities in western countries have extremely high tuition fees coupled with a higher cost of living. As a result, Zambian students look for more affordable alternatives like Sharda University in India. Sharda University offers African students the chance to avail higher-quality technology in education to ensure they have fun at learning and become proficient at the use of modern internet and telecommunications (ICT) interfaces. With the modern state-of-the-art educational infrastructure rivaling that of many famous universities of Asia, Sharda University has become a premiere hub of modern education for foreign students from developing African countries like Zambia.
